Level Creator, Rouge-Like Gauntlet Gamemode, Demo Update
Hey again everyone!
I have some more news involving the game so let jump right into it! We are getting close and closer to our official release window: Between April and Early June. Progress has been going full speed lately and were on track!
Here are a few things you can expect to see in the final game:
A LEVEL CREATOR!!!
Since I started this project I knew I wanted to put the power into the hands of the players, now that the level creator is finally starting to come along, I can say with confidence that I'll be able to do that for all of you. The level creator will be in-game of course, so players will be able to create, test, and play all in the game itself! The creator will offer players a wide selection of blocks, hazards, gizmos, tanks, and more to play around with! The only limit is your imagination! Also keep an eye out for a level creation contest, The best levels might actually be put into the game itself come release! Anyone who gets their level selected will get their name in the credits as a "Creator"!
GAUNTLET GAMEMODE!!!
This is a more developed form of the rouge-like gamemode I've been wanting to implement for a while now. Basically this is an entirely separate game mode from the campaign that will feature is own semi-custom made/semi-randomize levels. Like the standard campaign you'll be able to play with 4 players. This gamemode will have 60+ new levels to discover and play. Each level, like I said, will have built in random elements ensuring that every encounter feels different. The structure of the game mode goes as follows:
There will be 3 "Stages" to complete in order to beat a run. Each stage will have you play through 10 levels, yes much like the standard campaign. But each of these levels will be pulled semi-randomly from the 60+ levels I mentioned above. There will be a set of 20 levels stage 1 will pull from, meaning you will every only experience 10 of them on any given run, half of that content will only be potentially seen on a subsequent play through. Every 3 levels you complete you will visit the shop, At the shop you'll be able to do things like upgrade your tanks stats, buy new gadgets, and prepare for your next fight. Health in this gamemode is permeant and once you die, its all over. The player will have to beat all 3 stages in order for that to fight the final boss and win the run! Hopefully I've properly conveyed the general idea of the gamemode, I am super excited to get it into everyone hands so they can try it!
DEMO STATE ON ITCH.IO
As we move towards a higher focus on the steam full version of the game, we are going to continue to adjust the Itch.io demo where and when it makes sense. The good news we actually plan on including some form of the level editor in the demo once it's ready! The bad news is we are going to restrict some of the content that is already there. Again, the goal isnt to be oppressive, I want everyone to be able to enjoy Toy Tanks no matter their situation. I promise to work hard to achieve a fair and just balance between the full version and the demo version.
To recap, The demo will not include: The Full Campaign, The Full Level Creator, The Full set of Modifiers, The Full set of PvP Maps and Gamdemodes, Any part of The Gauntlet Gamemode, Any of the unlockable content, and so forth. Still, we will be updating the demo soon to contain some of these features in part. This'll also be a good way of deciding if you want to commit to paying for the final game, which is entirely fair and justified!
